1. The authority of the Bible as the infallible Word of God
2. A solid evangelical basis of faith (further elaborated by the Lausanne Covenant) (see Statement of Faith)
3. Being prayerful and completely reliant on the Holy Spirit.
4. Working in close partnership with Christian churches, schools, libraries, missions, parachurch organisations, and various literature ministries both in Africa and around the world.
5. Encouraging evangelical African and Africa-based authors and publishers.
6. Promoting books and other media which are committed to the evangelical faith.
7. Providing books and other media which are contextualized for Africa, relevantly addressing African realities, equipping church leaders to face challenges such as AIDS, Islam, unreached peoples, urbanisation, secularism, poverty, ethnicity, globalisation, wholistic development, and nation building.
8. Working hard to make books and other media available at affordable prices.
9. Providing, as we are able, free books for poverty-affected individuals or institutions.
10. Following (at the same time) a wise business management strategy which will promote viability; in other words, we are aiming for sustainable development.
11. Being accountable to our donors as well as those we serve by maintaining integrity and transparency in all our dealings.
12. Equipping Christian leaders with the resources to fulfil the purposes of the church: worship, teaching, fellowship, evangelism, and service.
THE ACTS APPROACH
Bookselling - we sell books at affordable prices, aiming to recover costs and then to re-invest with careful management and accountability. Most books are not given free because (1) sometimes things given free are not appreciated, (2) only a very limited number of people can be helped, and (3) a pattern of dependency may result.
Partnership - we work in close partnership with African churches, schools and missions. We also see ourselves as partners not rivals of other Christian booksellers, publishers, and writers in Africa, and indeed worldwide. We aim to develop a sustainable ministry that will ultimately be independent of outside assistance. We assist theologians and pastors in Africa to write and publish books which are meaningful and relevant.
