Major Events The following timeline gives just a summary of the major events: 1991 - initial discussions towards the formation of ACTS following an ACTEA meeting in Jos. 1993 - the formal inauguration of ACTS. All operations were on a part-time basis. 1995 - we received our first major grant - from Tearfund (UK) 1996 - we employed the first full-time worker for ACTS: after working part-time as a student for three years, a TCNN graduate, Rev. Luka Vandi, BD, MTh, joined us on secondment from his church, Ekklesiyar Yan-uwa a Nigeria (EYN), the Church of the Brethren. Rev. Vandi is still with us as our General Manager. We are so grateful to God for giving him to us. He is both gifted and 110% dedicated to the task. 1998 - we got our constitution in order and selected trustees, with Rev. Dr. Danny McCain as Chairman, Dr Scott Cunningham as Secretary, and Rev. Dr. Sid Garland as Executive Director. We also added a second employee, to assist us in handling cash. 1999 - Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) seconded one of their long-serving workers, Gideon Katmut, to help us with our accounts. In 1999 also we were officially registered as the Incorporated Trustees of Africa Christian Textbooks under the Corporate Affairs Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 2000 - we employed another cashier and a storekeeper. 2001 - we were able to employ four more workers. For a short time, through secondment from Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC), we had the help of an Action Partners missionary couple, Ken and Anne Mizon, but for health reasons they had to return to UK. 2002 - we welcomed a new worker, Comfort Davis, sent to us through Action Partners (UK). We also opened a new branch in the West Africa Theological Seminary, Lagos, and employed the first full-time manager for our branch at the Samuel Bill Theological College, Abak, Akwa Ibom State. We also acquired a new bus to help us reach out to colleges and conferences. 2003 - we welcomed an Administrative Secretary, Pamela Johnston, sent to us through Mission Africa; Action Partners also sent a German missionary couple, Wilfried and Brigitte Combosch, to assist in our accounts section. 2005 - we opened an ACTS bookshop at Nairobi Evangelical School of Theology, Karen, Kenya under the supervision of Martin Bussey. 2006 - we occupied our new Warehouse, Bookshop and Offices and held the Grand Opening Ceremony on 26 August 2006 |
